December is almost here and that means wild excitement from your entire class for an entire month-ah! One of my favorite ways to keep the class engaged is read alouds! I have two go-to Christmas books where the stories are quick but entertaining, and include a little craft at the end. Plus, they will both look really cute when you hang them up as a bulletin board or in the hallway.
Merry Christmas, Splat!
This is an oldie but a goodie and my class always LOVED reading Splat the Cat books! The Christmas version does not disappoint. After reading the book we would make our own Splats. For this part I would let the kids choose their own color for the package and paper ribbon, then bought a bag of bows and they could choose that also. The result was a wide variety of colorful packages!
The inside of is where they showed off their comprehension skills. We did the First, Next, Then, Last part as a class, talked through the characters and then let them do their own creative writing/drawing for the gift section.
Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho!
Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho! is another Christmas addition to a favorite series. The kids always get a kick out the mission-impossible style duck in this story :-).
We did the inside section together as it was a great comprehension discussion, and then they did the creative writing part for the front on their own. They turned out adorable!
They also look great in the hallway!
I hope these give you a quick afternoon project to tame the crazy days until winter break! You can grab both of these books at my TPT store. Just click the images below to shop!
